imageOne of the ways that we diminish the sin of indulging in pornography is that we reduce it to lust alone. It is that, but it is also more than that. What does Christ say?

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matthew 5:27-28 ESV

Indulging in any form of pornography (including what has been called ‘soft pornography’ like the images on many popular news and sports websites in the entertainment section) is adultery. That is crushing, but, if we are going to get serious about God’s holiness, then eradication (to borrow from Heath Lambert in “Finally Free”) must be the goal and not simply ‘manage the sin’ as Pastor Rob Murphey from New Covenant Bible Church Canton, GA would say.

There is truly nothing new under the sun, for the same attitudes towards God’s holiness are virtually the same. The Jews of old wanted to justify themselves before God on their own accord to claim the glory for perceived righteous living on the one hand while indulging in the fleeting but immediate pleasures of sin in Egypt on the other. We find ourselves doing the same thing in many areas of our lives, so it’s no wonder that God has ordained a great exposing within the Church aimed directly at what we would think of as born again orthodox believers.

He does not take His Holiness lightly, and some of the big names within orthodoxy today have been exposed and have had total meltdowns. God gives His glory to no other, and He will not simply let the Church, no matter how flailing She may appear, preach one way and totally live another. Our sin has found us out, so let us praise God for that. Otherwise, we’d continue to heap judgment and misery. Might this great exposure drive us to confession and repentance that we might seek the pleasures of Christ instead of settling for the vain trifles of this world.

God loves His Church, so He has disciplined Her before the entire world. How we respond to that will be indicative of our passion towards Him and those around us, especially our beloved wives.
